EA Plans New Layoffs After Shutting Down Mobile Games

As a result of the closure of two mobile games, Electronic Arts is reportedly contemplating additional layoffs that would effect “a small number of staff,” as stated in a recent report.

The decision was apparently made by EA as a consequence of the company’s decision to close EA Sports MLB Tap Sports and F1 Mobile Racing. EA did not provide any confirmation regarding the precise number of employees that were affected by the layoffs.

On behalf of GI.biz, Electronic Arts provided some unambiguous remarks that addressed the fans and the future of the games.

According to the statement made by the firm, “this is a difficult decision that we know impacts passionate communities that have played and enjoyed these games, and we do not take it lightly.”

“We extend our thanks and appreciation to the Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association, OneTeam Partners, and the MLBPAA for their close and valuable partnership,” said Electronic Arts.

This suggests that Electronic Arts may still be working on another Major League Baseball game at some point in the future.

“We are deeply committed to our Formula One franchise through our ongoing partnership with Formula One Management,” Electronic Arts (EA) says in a statement to reassure fans. Therefore, it is highly possible that another game in the series will be played.

Today, the official F1 Mobile Racing account published a fresh tweet on Twitter, which discussed the sunsetting of the contest. As of today, it has been revealed that F1 Mobile Racing will no longer offer in-app purchases, and app shops will remove the game from their shelves.

Players are fortunate in that they can continue to utilize their in-game currency until the 24th of May. When that time comes, the game will no longer be available to play.

As a result of ongoing budget cuts at a variety of companies, the recent layoffs at Electronic Arts are only one of many. Recent allegations have surfaced indicating that the developer Disruptive Games has just been subjected to layoffs.

The decision to lay off employees was also announced by ZA/UM, the developer of the popular role-playing game Disco Elysium, which took place last week.
